Your Privacy and Cloud Services

Up until very recently many of us thought it was improbable, not impossible, for our emails to be accessible by third parties.  But after recent developments, it may seem that there is not too much privacy when it comes to having our communications and personal information on 'free' websites.  More recently, I was startled by the fact that while searching for an email in my personal 'free' email service, lo and behold, an advertising email was displayed in my inbox, related to the content of the email I was searching for. Yes, I too, was ignorant of these practices and I'm moving myself to a private email service.

I just came to realize what this means and implies.  The content of my inbox is constantly being scanned to see what can be sold to me.  It makes perfect sense! After all, where do these companies get all the resources to sustain a monster infrastructure that can host "unlimited" amounts of data, and not charge a penny for it.  So, it's not just the government at this point.  Food for thought.

In the mean time, what to do?  Simple, register a personal domain name here, it comes with two email boxes and unlimited aliases, take your privacy back and share this information with your friends and family so they too can be in the know.  After all it sounds kinda nice when you send an email from john@smithfamily.com, so it's probably not such a bad idea.
